StockOpter® Insight (all versions)
Web Update Feature not working (6/30/08)
StockOpter® Insight users running under Office 2003 who have recently run any MS updates may encounter a message that says “Stock Quote Not Available – there has been a problem looking up the current price”, when trying to use the web update feature in the program.
Fix/Work-Around:
- If running under Office 2007, you do not encounter the problem. Upgrading from Office 2003 to Office 2007 seems to fix the issue.
- If running under Office 2003, upon encountering this error hit the OK button. You will then need to look up the stock price from a site, like Yahoo Finance, and then manually enter the stock price into the program.
StockOpter® Insight 1.7+
“Bad Parameter” error encountered running report (3 Mar 2008)
StockOpter Insight users running under Windows XP and Office 2007 can encounter “Run time error 41207 Bad Parameter” when they run a report. This is caused when Word is installed without a user name and initials.
Work-Around: Upon encountering this error, hit the “End” button, click “Restore Console” and then “Close Insight” (save your data as required). Open Word 2007; click the "Office" button in the upper left, then the "Word Options" button at the bottom. In the wizard, select the "Popular" option on the left (the default) and enter your "User Name" and "Initials" in the box at the lower right. Then hit “OK”, close Word, restart Insight and run a report.
Support for Microsoft Windows Vista and Office 2007
The current versions of StockOpter® Insight (v1.7+) and StockOpter Pro (v3.5+) now support Microsoft office 2007. However, Windows Vista is still not supported. We are evaluating the need for versions of Insight and Pro that run under Windows Vista. Please call us at (541) 383-3899 to discuss your plans for adopting Windows Vista so we can best serve your evolving needs.
StockOpter® Insight 1.61:
Grant strike prices with 3-4 decimal places (2 Jan 2007)
A calculation/display error can occur for the In-the-Money and related values (i.e. Cash-out, Black Scholes, Time Value, etc.) with grants that use 3 or 4 decimal places. When using grant strike prices with more than 2 decimal places StockOpter® Insight will display rounded strike price values in the Personal Option Profile report tables but it will
calculate the In-the-Money and related values using the actual strike price. Additionally, if a grant is edited and saved after initial entry for any reason, the rounded strike price will be saved in the program and applied in any subsequent report creations.
Work-Around: Use 2 decimal place grant prices wherever possible. If 3 or 4 decimal strike prices must be used: 1) footnote your output to indicate the rounding and calculation inconsistency, and 2) re-enter the full strike price whenever a grant is edited. This issue will be addressed in the next release of StockOpter® Insight.
StockOpter® Insight 1.60:
Failure of migration into StockOpter® Pro (29 Sept 2005):
An error occurs when attempting to migrate option data from StockOpter® Insight 1.60
in to any version of StockOpter® Pro.
Work-Around:
Upgrade to StockOpter® Insight 1.61.
StockOpter® Insight 1.02 and 1.5:
Failure of Web Update of Current Stock Price (13 July 2005):
Due to a change in the third-party website (pcquote.com) that is used to
implement the “Web Update” feature on the “Holding” tab; this function is
no longer available. An “Internet Connection Anomaly” message is generated
stating “Cannot update stock quotes from the Internet now” and asking
“Is your Internet connection working?” Upon clicking “OK” to continue the
input field is reset to zero. We are currently looking into alternative
solutions to address this situation and will notify users when a fix
is available.
Work-Around:
Upgrade to StockOpter® Insight 1.6.
Act! 2005 (Version 7.0):
Compatibility issue between NWSI software and
Act! 2005 (Version 7.0) (14 February 2005):
After using and closing StockOpter® Pro, StockOpter® Insight,
or StockOpter® Entry, a dialog box titled "VBA Password" appears
on the Windows desktop and cannot be closed. Earlier versions of Act! did not
show this behavior. Best Software has released several updates to Act! 2005
already, but this problem still persists. We are currently in contact with
technical support at Best Software to resolve this issue.
Work-Around:
There are three alternatives:
1) Fully uninstall Act! 2005. This is probably far too drastic for most
Act! users but will solve the problem. To proceed along this line, click on
the "My Computer" icon, choose "Control Panel," then choose "Add/Remove Programs,
and then choose "Act!"
2) Use Windows Task Manager to remove the dialog box.
The behavior will continue to re-appear each time you use
and then close StockOpter® Pro, StockOpter® Insight, or StockOpter® Entry. To use this second method:
- Close any Excel session that you still have open.
- Invoke Windows Task Manager (the simplest way is by pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del,
then choosing Task Manager in the resulting dialog box).
- In the Task Manager dialog box, choose the Processes tab and highlight
the Excel.exe item.
- Click the End Process button in the lower right corner of the dialog box, and then
click Yes in the pop-up confirmation window. The VBA Password box should
then disappear.
- Close the Task Manager dialog box by clicking on the the “X” in the upper right
hand corner or choosing File / Exit on the menu system.
3) Remove the interface between Act! and Microsoft Office.
This will leave Act! fully functional as a stand-alone application but
will remove Office features used by Act! such as using
Microsoft Word as the text editor for your e-mail. Best Software's
instructions for doing this are:
- Run this line from Start>Run (including all quotation marks):
"C:\Program Files\ACT\ACT for Win 7\RegAsm.exe"
/unregister "C:\Program Files\ACT\ACT for Win 7\Act.Office.Addin.dll"
- Then rename Normal.dot.
- This will remove it from both Word and Excel.
Google Desktop (Beta):
Compatibility issue between NWSI software and the
Google Desktop utility (Beta) (11 January 2005):
After using and closing StockOpter® Pro, StockOpter® Insight,
or StockOpter® Entry, a dialog box titled "VBA Password" appears
on the Windows desktop and cannot be closed. While we are still investigating this,
it appears to be associated with the use of the Google Desktop utility. This software
is known to have this impact on other Excel workbooks which make extensive use
of Visual Basic for Applications (VBA).
Work-Around:
There are three alternatives:
1) Uninstall Google Desktop using the Add/Remove Programs feature
in the Windows Control Panel.
3) Implement a third-party solution. The following link will lead you to a web site
containing information on this issue and a proposed solution. While NWSI does not endorse this
solution or the website, we have reviewed this solution and it does appear to resolve the issue.
Proceed at your own discretion. www.add-ins.com
If the above does not solve the problem on your system, please contact
technical support at Net Worth Strategies for more assistance. If you do so by e-mail, use
Windows XP Service Pack 2:
Possible compatibility issues with all programs
using Excel VBA (26 August 2004):
We have completed testing SP2 with StockOpter® Insight, StockOpter® Pro, and StockOpter® Entry, and have encountered no problems. So,
effective 29 October 2004 we support the Windows XP SP2 platform
for all of our applications.
StockOpter® Insight 1.02 and 1.00:
Calculation Error (15 February 2005):
Calculation of Cash Out Value column of the Leverage table in the Personal Option Profile© report: If the client data used to create the Personal Option Profile©
report contains separately stated vesting events that have already occurred,
the cash out value of the portfolio will mistakenly double-count the cash out
value of the vesting lots. That is, the cash out value of the vested tranche will
be double-counted.
Work-Around: Upgrade to StockOpter® Insight 1.5.
Other Issues:
- In the Personal Option Profile© (POP)
report the "Time value" calculated in the Black Scholes
table for unvested options may display a negative number when
the "per share Dividend" in the "Company Data"
section is non-zero. This is inconsistent with the treatment of
vested options where the "Time value" will never be
less than zero.
- Within the leverage table in the "Investment
Risk/Reward" section of the POP, once a dollar value goes
to zero at a given "Potential Future Stock Price", all
"Incremental Change" values for lower stock prices read
"-100%". Also, if all client options are currently underwater,
the first incremental price change that results in an in-the-money
value will also display a -100%. This is not correct since the
increase is actually infinite, going from zero(0) to some value.
- The "Future Vesting" section
of the POP will report incorrect vesting dates in the first column
for lots vesting prior to December of 2004 if the report is generated
in a subsequent calendar month AND the client's data has not been
updated prior to running the report. To update the client data,
go to the Holdings tab, select a grant, click Edit, make no changes,
and click OK.
