Microsoft Employees Face Big Financial Decision

As you've probably heard, Microsoft employees have about 4 weeks to decide to participate in a program that will cash out their underwater employee stock options. The "Microsoft Stock Option Transfer Program" can be summarized as follows:
  • MSFT employees will have until November 12th to elect to transfer their stock options with grant prices higher than $33 to JP Morgan
  • Employees must transfer all of their eligible options to participate
  • The total payment will be determined by the average closing price of MSFT stock during an average period that will begin shortly after the election period ends and will continue for a number of trading days currently expected to be 15
  • Total payments over $20,000 will be paid out in 1 or 2 additional annual installments depending on level
